The two-match winning streak of the Scobey varsity girls’ volleyball team quickly did an about-face and has become a three-match losing streak after last week’s action.
The Spartans (2-6) lost 3-games-to-0 to the Froid-Lake Redhawks in Medicine Lake Tuesday, September 22.
A match orginally scheduled for Saturday, September 12, in Culbertson but postponed was made up on Friday, September 25, in Culbertson with the Cowgirls executing a 25-18, 27-25, 25-19 sweep. Ryleigh Backman had 8 kills and 5 blocks along the net for the Spartans, Sage Kilgore had 2 aces, Gracee Lekvold had 2 aces and 7 assists and Whitley Maher had 8 digs.
Scobey hit the road for the third time in five days
when traveling to northern Richland County to face the Fairview Warriors and losing 3-1.
The Spartans hosted the District 1C-leading Plentywood Wildcats on Tuesday, September 29.
In eight matches thus far in the 2020 season the Scobey girls have lost 20 games and won 10.
The Spartans get another crack at the Culbertson Cowgirls on Friday, October 2, but this time on their home hardwood. Action begins at 3 p.m. with the seventh grade match followed by eighth grade match at 4 p.m., the junior varsity 20 minutes after the eighth graders finish and the var sity to close it out.
The Tuesday, October 6, matches in Wolf Point against the Wolves, with the junior varsity beginning at 5 p.m. and the varsity starting 20 minutes after its conclusion, are iffy at this point because word is all of Roosevelt County is shutting down high school sports for two weeks (but do your own due dilligence on that!).
Whether Wolf Point is a go or not, the Spartans are scheduled to finish their
home schedule with three straight matches: Savage Warriors on Friday, October 9, with just a varsity match at 5 p.m.; Lustre Christian on Tuesday, October 13, with just varsity at 6 p.m.; Froid-Lake, Thursday, October 22, with JV and varsity at 5 p.m.+20 minutes.
The Montana High School Association held its regularly scheduled meeting on September 21 and here’s what it said about upcoming district and divisional volleyball tournaments: All regular season requirements and considerations will be followed. The District and Division must receive approval from their county health department to host the event. If approval is given, the District and Division have two options for their tournament: 1) Playoff bracket — highest seed hosting (single elimination).
2) Tournament format — top half bracket/bottom half bracket; bracket play will be played at two separate gyms/sites (either double or single elimination). There will only be the two teams playing and then exiting and then two other teams in the bracket readying for play followed by a break to clean and sanitize.
The host site must allow a minimum of two tickets per suited player for both home and visitors in the playoff structure or a minimum of two tickets for each suited player in the tournament format.
