YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED: THE NEW HOSPITAL Q&A 1. Why do you need a new hospital when the one you have seems to be working just fine? Our current facility has reached its limit for growth and is the fourth oldest hospital in Montana. We want to have room to allow for better patient care and experience, enhanced staff efficiency, and the ability to host visiting specialists. It’s critical that we’re here for people when they need us, no matter what, and a newhospital helps us do that. 2. What’s going to happen to the old hospital and surrounding property? The current facility is being updated to continue to meet the needs of our community. The Hospital District owns the existing hospital property and is currently considering its options. 3. How can you afford this project with interest rates and cost of construction going up? We have taken a thoughtful approach to funding andbuilding this that includes multiple resources. Partnering with USDA Rural Development has allowed us to harness the benefits of very low interest rates. In 2025, USDARural Development issued DMH a Letter of Conditions (LOC) that outlines requirements the facility must meet to be eligible for longterm financing. As part of USDA feeling comfortable to issue the LOC, they relied on a financial feasibility forecast and preliminary architectural report. Both of these documents demonstrated DMH’s ability to service and responsibly manage long-term debt. 4. How will this affect my taxes today and will weas taxpayers be on the hook to pay for the new hospital if DMHC can’t make the loan payments in the future? Daniels County taxpayers have voted every four years for a 50 mill levy to support health care in Daniels County for over 20 years.Any alteration in this funding amount would have to be approved by a vote of the taxpayers 5. How do you expect to staff a new hospital if youcan't manage to staff the one we have with local employees? Health care staffing and recruitment is a challenge nationwide, and we’re not immune to that. However, over the past several years we havebeen able to reduce the number of contract travelers at our facility. We continue to find new and creative ways to attract and retain quality employees. Additionally, after visiting with numerous leaders of newly built hospitals, they noted their ability to recruit andretain substantially improved in the new facility. We may never completely eliminate contract travelers, because they play in important role filling gaps when needed, but our ability to attract new, qualified talent will increase.
