It didn’t look like much. But it changed everything. Within a decade, airplanes were improving rapidly. Within a generation, they were transforming warfare, commerce and travel. By mid-century, Americans were flying coast to coast in hours instead of days. The Wright brothers were methodical, patient and persistent. They studied earlier failures, tested wing designs and kept refining their approach. Their success marked the dawn of the aviation age — proof that human flight was no longer a dream.
