HB231 was The controversial tax bill in 2005 Legislature session. Supporters called it Tax Relief.... In Reality It Is A Massive Tax Shift. It dramatically increased property taxes on 2nd homes, claiming it would mainly affect out of state owners. However, 55% of Montana homes are actual Montana residents. Hardworking Montana farmers, ranchers, and families would have been hit with average property tax increase of nearly 68%. It also raised taxes on agricultural and commercial property so all single-home property owners could receive and estimated $400.00 rebate from the Dept of Revenue. This is not genuine long term property tax relief. It is a Tax Shift. The final vote was 60 YES ( 25 Republican - 35 Democrat ) 39 NO ( 33 Republicans - 6 Democrats) My opponent voted YES for this tax shift. I definitely would have voted NO ! Your vote on June 2 for Linda Harmon would be greatly appreciated ! Harmon 4 Paid For by Harmon 4 House | HD 29 | P.O. Box 987, Scobey, MT 59263
