Featuring 10 two-bedroom units, the HERE IS A LOOK at the Wheatland Lodge on the afternoon of Monday, April 21, shortly before 2 p.m. Below from left, Whitney Crocker, William “The Little Helper Boy” Crocker and Twyla Holum get photographed in the beautiful new lobby of the motel — Leader Photos, mike “lodge” is a clean and quaint little historical building located along Main Street. The lodging facility was built in 1952 by Chet and Mary Juel and called the Juel Motel. Just like 73 years ago, the current owners pride themselves in offering visitors of Daniels County clean, friendly and affordable accommodations. Kent and Twyla Holum are the current owners, having purchased the motel in 2018. Kent has lived in Scobey his entire life and wouldn’t have it any other way. He has worked full time for Thievin Auto Body in Scobey for the past 24 years and also helps out area farmers during spring work and harvest. He, along with Twyla's son Mason Crocker, handle the majority of the maintenance at the Wheatland Lodge. Twyla, along with daughter-in-law Whitney, co-manage the Wheatland Lodge, clean and maintain the rooms and handle the day-to-day operations. Twyla and Whitney are also co-owners of Jitters, a specialty coffee stand in Scobey just a few blocks south of the Wheatland Lodge along Highway 13. They enjoy the simple life that a small city has to offer. Taking pride in every job they do, one can be assured the Wheatland Lodge is no exception. “There hasn’t been a lot of changes since our last Loyalty Page spotlight other than the fact we revamped our front lobby and are now renting a small room that was orginally part of the lobby to New Age Asthetics,” said Twyla. “Now one can stay at the motel and perhaps book a facial with Riley for some extra relaxation as well!” “In all honesty this has been the roughest fiscal year the lodge has endured since we took over in 2018,” noted Twyla. “The 2024 hunting season was nowhere what it normally is and unfortunately that is what the lodge relies on to get us through the slow winter months. The economy doesn’t help matters with the rising costs of everything, but we really started noticing a drastic decline in reservations as soon as all the Airbnbs in town started popping up. As I’m sure did the bars and restaurants. Considering those that choose an Airbnb over a hotel/motel are also mostly eating and drinking at ‘home’ instead of going out. Don’t get me wrong, we have personally stayed in many Airbnbs in more populated touristy areas and they definitely have their perks! But, the hotels in our small town rely mainly on construction in town are just a bonus. So, we just keep plugging along in hopes that things will start looking up!” “As of now, we are booked for a few weekends in June and have some reservations for hunting season as well,” said Twyla. “Other than that, we are season and hunting season to keep our doors open; the other happenings hoping to get some construction crews in to fill in the gaps.” If WE don’t help our community WHO will? These fine businesses offer their thanks and appreciation to all of our past and present customers and clients! How can we serve you bet ter?
