GOLF — History lesson: Golf has been part of Montana’s high school sports landscape for nearly a century, with boys’ competition officially sanctioned by the Montana High School Association in 1928 and the girls’ competition in 1936. In the early years, only individual state champions were recognized, with team scoring introduced in 1956 for boys and 1966 for girls. The sport continued to evolve, and by 1978, separate classifications were established, allowing schools to compete for team and individual titles within their class.
