Junior High Jett Lifts Off, Soars At Sidney Track/Field Gathering

While his first name is Jett, he actually flies like a jet when running around on a one-quarter-mile track.
Jett Holum, a Scobey seventh grader, literally flew around the rubberized oval adjacent to Sidney High School on Tuesday, April 21. He scored over half of his team’s 53.33 points, which was good for a third-place finish, onethird of a point better than the Fairview seventh grade boys in fourth.
In the 200-meter dash he posted a time of 27.08 for first place, just a tad bit faster than the runnersup (27.34), third-place (27.50) and fourth-place (27.60) finishers.
In the 400-meter dash, the one-lapper, he posted a very fine 58.62 effort, around two and one-half seconds faster than the runnersup from Glendive.
In the 1,600-meter run, the 4-lapper around the track also known as a mile, he was cooking with lots of grease, winning easily by a huge 52-second margin.
Thirty big points for a big third-place team finish.
He wasn’t the only firstplace finisher for the Spartans as Siri Moran on the Scobey girls’ team ruled the high jump with a leap of 4-foot, 4-inches. She also posted a seasonal best in the pole vault at 6-foot-6.
Seventh grader Esmeralda Sones also showed very well for the Spartans, timed at 6:29.23 in the 1,600-meter run for second place.
Classmate Hailey Johnson also performed very well by placing fourth in the 1600 and sixth in the 800. In addition, Johnson teamed up with Emma Johnsrud, Ariana Maldonado and Khloe Oller to place second in the medley relay (100100-200-400).
For the Lustre girls, eighth grader Ava Holzrichter won both the 100- and 200-meter hurdles while classmate Harlo Reddig earned fifth- and third-place finishes in the same races.
For the Lustre boys eighth grader Gunner Damboise placed first in the high jump clearing 5-foot-6 and second in the long jump and 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Following Holum’s huge showing, Scobey’s other first-place finisher in the seventh-grade boys division was Nate Lekvold, who won the 800-meter run in 2:36.39, a personal best effort.
