Malta Nearly Makes Clean Sweep Until Scobey Boys Say No!

To say it was a very big track and field meet would be a very big understatement.

On Saturday, April 11, on Scottie Field, which is adjacent to the Glasgow High School, was packed with people: young female and male athletes in grades 6, 7 and 8, parents, grand parents, friends, coaches, bus drivers and who knows who else.

They came from Bainville, Brockton (Barbara Gilligan), Circle, Crosby (one state to the east), Culbertson, Grenora, Glasgow, Froid, Harlem, Hays, Hinsdale, Lambert, Lustre, Lodge Pole, Malta, Medicine Lake, Nashua, Plentywood, Poplar, Richey, Saco, Scobey, Turner, Westby, Whitewater and Wolf Point Scobey seventh grader Jett Holum was the headliner, earning triple-win status (200, 400, 1600, all PBs, as in personal bests!), as did Malta’s Ben Hould (110 hurdles, 200 hurdles, long jump).

The triple winner for the girls was Anna Brown of Malta, acing the 100and 200-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash in the seventh-grade division. Double female winners included: Cali Gorder of Wolf Point (800, 1600); Ava Holzrichter of Lustre (100 hurdles and 200 hurdles); Ava Hove of Circle-Redwater (high jump and long jump) and Brooklyn Simanton of Malta (high jump and triple jump).

Double winner for the guys was Braelon Tatafu of Malta (100, 200).

Malta nearly swept all four team winners, taking the eighth grade girls and boys and seventh grade girls titles, but the Scobey seventh grade boys out-pointed Mustangs 78-to-62.5 to capture the championship.

Here are the results of the first-place finishers, plus all the athletes from the Scobey School and Lustre School:
