Carol Dighans 1929 – 2025

Funeral services for Carol Dighans were Saturday, September 27, 2025 at St. Philip Bonitus Catholic Church in Scobey.

Carol Helen Dighans, 95, long time resident of Peerless, Montana passed away peacefully at the Billings Clinic Hospital early on the morning of Saturday, September 20, 2025.

Carol was born in Peerless on December 28, 1929, in a big house on the corner of Peerless. She was the fourth child, out of five, born to Jesse and Beulah Slaughter. Carol was raised on her parents’ homestead place in Butte Creek, which was north of Peerless. They lived a half mile from Butte Creek School, so she walked to school every day for her eight years of elementary education. She then attended Peerless High School, and graduated from there in 1947.

After graduating from high school, Carol attended Northern Montana College in Havre. She graduated with a teaching certificate in 1948 after one year of college, which is all that you needed at that time. Her first teaching assignment was at the Carbert Country School in Butte Creek.
