‘Scobey’ Relative Visitor from Tennessee


A chance meeting of total strangers in an antique store in Celina, Tennessee last March brought a special guest to the Scobey community over the weekend. Mary Loyd Reneau, an 83 year old retired band director still recovering from a knee replacement, drove over 1600 miles in three days to visit a town on the prairies of northeastern Montana with the same name as her mother’s family, Scobey!
Larry and Karen Wahl were visiting the Southeast last winter and were staying in Bowling Green, Kentucky with their former principal from their teaching stint in Iwakuni, Japan. In their travel adventures they took the car across the Cumberland River on the last operating ferry in the state of Kentucky into Tennessee. Their trip through the backcountry landed them in Celina, Tennessee where there was an interesting antique store on the town square.
After browsing for a while, Larry spotted a campaign sign that read, “David Scob...
