Scobey Giants Act Like Baseball Giants To Win Big Muddy Title


The Scobey Giants Major League baseball team, consisting of players ages 11-12, pretty much rolled through their Big Muddy League Tournament held in Scobey last week to capture top honors.
Played on the North Field of the Scobey Ball Park, the locals posted a 3-0 record and outscored their three opponents 36-13, an average of 12.0-3.4 per contest.
In Sunday afternoon’s championship game the offensive fireworks were blasting off as both teams were plating a healthy amount of runs in the 18-8 final. When the inning ended the score was 9-4 Scobey as, in order batting, Jett Holum (base on balls), Cannon Rush (single, two stolen bases), Mason Ridley (BB), Thor Lund (single), Bentley Thompson (single) Maximus Winge-Petersen (single), Mariano Rivera (BB) and lead-off batter Seton Wolfe (BB) had all made it around the diamond and safely reached home plate.
The second inning wasn’t as productive as the first one for the Giants run-wise but nobody was complaining as they added another five runs making it 13-5. Scoring were Lund (BB), Thompson (BB), Toby Nygaard, Wolfe (BB) and J. Holum (single).
In the third frameThompson got on base, stole his way from second to third and then scored for a 14-8 advantage.
While the Giants were standing tall on the scoreboard the North Prairie Electric crew could not generate any offensive juice the rest of the way, getting a baserunner as far as second base in the fourth and one to third in the fifth, compliments of a couple of passed balls.
Meanwhile, the Scobey crew had some energy to plate four more runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
