The Scobey boys basketball June 2025 summer season began Saturday, May 31, in the Scobey School large gymnasium and concluded 33 hours later on Sunday, June 1, 6:02 p.m. to be precise.

In between were 18 games featuring the Circle Wildcats, Lustre Christian Lions, MonDak Thunder, Wolf Point Wolves, Scobey Spartans, Scobey Spartans junior varsity, Scobey Spartans Alumni and Winifred Red Raiders.

Game 1 at 9 a.m. Saturday had the Scobey Alumni (2-0, 172-137, 86.0-68.5) taking on Circle and the “old-timers” showed they were still relevant by reaching the century mark in a decisive 100-71 victory. C.J. Nelson, who deposited nine 3-point field goals, led all scorers with 35 points. Following were teammates Peyton Nieskens with 15, Aidan Fishell and Jayce Tande 13 each, Austyn Fishell 12 and Cooper Olson 6 (a MonDak alumni who currently resides in Scobey). Braxton Wolfe was also on the roster.

Game 2 at 10 a.m. had Lustre Christian (2-2, 268210, 67.0-52.5) defeating Wolf Point 83-46. The Lions led comfortably 38-23 at halftime and by games-end Joel Reddig had 23 points followed by Diek Olfert and Johnslee Pierre with 14 each, Cam Reddig 13 and Prestyn Klatt 11.

The third game at 11 a.m. between the current Scobey Spartans (4-0, 287184, 71.7-46.0), who placed fourth at this past season’s State C Tournament in Butte, and the Scobey Alumni couldn’t have been any closer since it went into one overtime. The current crew led 18-15, 33-28 and 45-44 through three quarters but at the end of regulation play it was knotted at 6464. A three-point field goal by Cooper Axtman and a deuce by Bram Handran in overtime was the difference in the 69-66 final, as was the current Spartans’ defense in the OT, holding their opponents to a C.J. Nelson 2-point field goal. Handran led the current Spartans with 22 points followed by John Carney with 21, Kolten Machart 14, Axtman 9 and Reese Tande 2.

A portion of the 202526 Scobey JV squad (2-2, 233-215, 58.2-53.7) made its high-school hoop debut in the 1 p.m. time slot, defeating MonDak 60-40. This is an upcoming freshman class loaded with athletic talent, not only in hoops but football and track/field as well. Anybody reading this group’s track and field re...
