Alert! Alert!

A Scobey High School track and field record was bested on one of the biggest regular-season stages by senior Kaytie Aanstad at the 43rd annual Norm Girard Top 10 Meet.

Held at Scottie Field in Glasgow Tuesday, April 29, Aanstad flung the discus 125 feet and one-half inch for a second-place finish and personal record (PR) behind Sidney’s Audree Deming, who heaved it 127 feet and 4 inches (PR).

Aanstad’s record-breaking throw bettered the 41-year-old discus mark held by Jill Farver, who tossed it 123 feet and 9 inches in 1984.

Aanstad also placed second in the shot put, heaving the 4 kilogram steel orb 37 feet and 7.5 inches (PR), just 2 inches behind winner Jolee Klempel (PR) of the Richey-Lambert Fusion.

Aanstad wasn’t the only Lady Spartan turning in a strong performance, all who received an invite did: senior Mady Willis, who will be taking her track and field talents to Dickinson State University in western North Dakota later this year, placed second in the 100-meter hurdles in a seasonal record (SR) 16.22 seconds and second place in the 300 hurdles in 47.84 (SR). In a field event she finished in a 2-way tie for fifth in the pole vault at 8-feet, 6-inches; senior Mya Green, who is headed to Montana Tech in Butte, placed second in the 3200-meter run in 12:32.51 (SR); junior Camrie Holum placed fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:34.40 (SR), just over six seconds out of first place; freshman McKenna Nieskens placed seventh in the 800 in 2:42.11 (PR), just over 14 seconds behind the winner. In the 4x400 relay, in order ran, Willis, Green, Nieskens and Holum placed sixth in 4:22.38, which was just under 13 and one-half seconds behind the winning squad from Fairview.

Team scores are not kept at the Norm Girard Top 10 Meet but if they were the Lady Spartans would have closed the meet with 46.5 points, which trailed only Havre’s 93 and Sidney’s 50.

Using the 10-8-6-4-2-1 scoring system, Chinook was fourth with 46 points followed by Richey-Lambert 44, Fairview 31, Whitewater 25.5, Turner 24, Circle 23, Savage 23, Bainville 21, Glasgow 18.5, Malta 15, Plentywood 15, Harlem 10, Wolf Point 9, Carter Country (Ekalaka) 8, Hinsdale 8, MonDak Saco 5, (Westby-Grenora) 4, Garfield County (Jordan) 2 and Nashua 1.5.

As for the boys, if team scores were ...
