The zero at the end of the Scobey High School girls’ varsity basketball team’s record had a cat claw puncture it Saturday afternoon and it went pop!

Undefeated in the 202324 season the Lady Spartans are no more after a solid Circle Wildcats team scored a tight 38-37 victory Saturday afternoon.

Played in Scobey, the Wildcats set the tone two minutes and 39 seconds into the contest when Madeline Moline, a 5-foot-9 sophomore, dropped in 3-point field goal from the left baseline for the game’s initial lead. Scobey’s Camrie Holum, 80 seconds later, swished a trey of her own to knot it 3-all and the score remained tight the remainder of the first quarter, which ended 10-8 in favor of the visitors.

It was in the second period where the Wildcats began creating some separation from the Spartans. Senior Tina Hogan dumped in a 2-pointer and junior Kristen Wagner popped a trey for a 15-8 advantage. After Scobey’s Mya Green converted a lay-in bucket, a rare 4-point play occurred at the 3:40 mark. Charlie Moline, a 5-6 freshman launched a 3-point field goal, made it, was fouled while doing so ...
