New Garbage Truck Added to City Fleet
THE CITY OF SCOBEY recently added a new 2026 Mack garbage truck equipped with a 26-yard Heil box. The truck replaces an older unit and includes a compacting system designed to reduce the volume of waste hauled and improve efficiency. City employee Paul Nelson is shown here operating the truck, let us climb inside the cab for a look. It looks much more like an airplane cockpit than a garbagetruck. And like an airplane, it has two steering yokes and controls. It is apparently now standard in the industry to have two steering wheels and sets of controls; however, the operator can only pick up garbage on the “European” driving side. The typical driver’s side cannot operate the dumpster-picking arm and related equipment, while the other steering wheel is used primarily for highway driving and longer distances rather thanjust around town. —Leader Photos, b
