With District Meet Done, Things Get Tougher To Advance Further


It was a clean-team sweep at the District 3C Track and Field Meet for the Lustre Christian Lions as both its girls and boys teams were the winners.
Held at Scottie Field in Glasgow Tuesday, May 12, the Lions roared as its boys’ team racked up 168 points and its girls’ squad 123 to capture both first-place trophies.
The Circle Wildcats had its girls and boys earning the runnersup trophies with 98 and 124 points respectively while Scobey brought home both third-place trophies, the boys scoring 114 points and the girls 74.5.
The boys’ field produced 55 personal-best times and distances and 13 seasonalbest marks while the girls accumulated 39 PBs and 11 SBs.
If the meet was giving out an individual MVP award on the girls side it would have to go to Kate Nasner of the Circle Wildcats, who won the 200- and 400-meter dashes, the 100and 300-meter hurdles and the long jump for 50 big team points. The Lustre Christian girls won both relay races while Scobey’s Kayla Carney captured the 1600- and 3200-meter runs. Also representing the Lady Spartans with first-place finishes were Camrie Holum in the 800 and Ava Stenoft in the discus.
On the boys side, Lustre Christian’s Prestyn Klatt captured four individual titles (800, high jump, long jump, triple jump) as did his teammate Johnslee Pierre, who won the first-place finishes in the 400, 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and triple jump Their teammate, Jaycee Hilkemann, was a two-time winner on the day, capturing the 1600- and 3200-meter runs. The Lions’ 4x400 relay team of Cam Reddig, Chris Traeholt, Hilkemann and Klatt claimed the long relay.
Scobey’s 4x100 relay team of Quinn Axtman, Konner Oller, Curtis Leibrand and Mikael Sondergaard were also winners, as was Spartan pole vaulter Clay Southland.
Circle’s Xavier Nasner was a double winner by taking the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Action shifts to Lambert on Thursday, May 21, for the East C Divisional Meet at the Lambert Sports Complex, with start time scheduled for 9 a.m.
The State Meet for Classes A and C is set for May 28-30 at the Laurel Sports Complex while the Class AA and B State Meet goes the same days at Missoula County Public Stadium.
