Lady Spartans B-ball Players Saved The Very Best For Last
To say the 2025-26 Scobey High School girls’ basketball varsity team had a good season would be the ultimate understatement.
Yeah, there were some ups and downs here and there as far as winning and losing goes, but when it was time to get the job done, the Lady Spartans got the job done!
Oh, you are demanding proof?
It comes down to three simple words: how they finished!
The Scobey girls (20-8, 1360-880, 48.5-31.4) began the season with a 5-game winning streak before losing an away game to a very solid Class B Glasgow team. Following were a pair of District 3 conference wins for a 7-1 record. Back-to-back losses to the 3-time defending Class C state champion North Country Mavericks (Saco-Whitewater-Hinsdale), a 53-33 pounding on Scobey’s home hardwood, and a tight 39-37 away loss to eventual State C runnersup Circle Wildcats had their record dropping to 6-3.
On the following weekend they split: winning over Frazer by 64 points but losing to Glasgow in overtime by four at home, putting their record at 8-4.
The Spartans went on a 5-game winning streak, pushing their overall record to 13-4, before hosting Circle in the final regular season game in Scobey, a 44-32 verdict in favor of the Roundtowners.
Wins of 62-15 and 3834 over Nashua and North Country, the latter a very big victory, at the District 3C Tournament in Glasgow followed, as did the championship versus Circle, a very tight 43-42 triumph by the Wildcats. The message sent by the Spartans at this point was they were starting to play some very good hoops against the strong teams at just the right time.
The very positive trend continued down south in Miles City, where the East C Divisional Tournament was held. After handling Ekalaka 52-38 in the first round, the Spartans once again found a way to slip by North Country in the semifinals, a very tight 32-30 win. Paired with Circle again in the title tilt, they lost 25-23 to the Wildcats, but the extremely great news was they could not be challenged on Monday night, meaning pack your bags for the State C in Missoula!
In first round action for Scobey Head Coach Jedd Lekvold and assistants Tami Nelson and Rob Rouse, the Spartans faced top-ranked and undefeated the Denton-Geyser-Highwood-Geraldine Bearcats.
DGHG took a 6-0 lead, Scobey tied it at 19 late in the second quarter, the former led 21-19 at halftime and went ahead 30-22 with just over two minutes left in the third, the Spartans closed within 34-30 early in the fourth and then won 3830.
It was now win-or-season- over time for Scobey.
They elected to win! It was tight throughout the first three and one half quarters when facing the West Yellowstone Wolverines in a Friday morning loser-out game tipping off at 9:31 a.m. Spartans won it 41-37!
On Saturday, it was another early loser-out contest tipping off at 11:10 a.m. The final score ended at Scobey 39 Melstone Broncs 30 in one overtime!
Twenty-seven games down, one to go.
The Spartans faced a very good Chester-Joplin-Inverness squad in the consolation game tipping off at 5:41 p.m. Win this one and the Spartans earn the thirdplace trophy, lose and they take fourth place at state like the 2024-25 Scobey squad.
Scobey 32 CJI 30 final, concluding a tremendous finishing run!
Here is a game-by-game look back at the Scobey girls’ 2025-26 hoop season, where after losing in the first round at the State C Tournament they strung together three consecutive wins to bring back home the thirdplace trophy!
