The Lady Spartans of Scobey High School did not win the East C Division Tournament championship Saturday night in Miles City, but then again, they did win—a berth in this week’s State C Tournament!

The Spartans of head coach Jedd Lekvold and assistant coaches Tami Nelson and Rob Rouse executed just enough of the right things to make it into the chipper, where they lost by a very tight 25-23 final score to the champion Circle Wildcats.

By the time local Leader reader gets the physical newspaper copy in their hand Wednesday afternoon, the Spartans will already be on their journey to Missoula, site of this season’s State C event.

The big get-together at the University of Montana on Robin Selvig Court begins Thursday, March 11, at 12 noon when the top-ranked Denton-Geyser-Stanford-Geraldine Bearcats (24-0, 1448-677, 60.3-28.2) meet the Spartans (17-7, 1218740, 50.7-30.8) at 12 p.m.

Game two follows at 1:30 p.m. when the Chester- Joplin-Inverness Hawks (22-1, 1450-612, 63.0-26.6) tip-off against the West Yellowstone Wolverines (21-2, 1258-771, 54.6-33.5).

To begin the second session, the Circle Wildcats (20-3, 1268-764, 55.1-33.2) tangle with the Belt Huskies (21-3, 1242-793, 51.7-33.0) at 3:30 p.m.

The first-round closer has the Drummond Trojans (23-0, 1256-502, 54.6-21.8) playing the Melstone Broncs (21-4, 1428-817, 57.1-32.6) at 5 p.m.
