The Scobey varsity girls’ basketball team could not protect a 41-36 lead with just under six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s District 3C Tournament championship game in Glasgow.

The end result was a 4342 victory for the Circle Wildcats, proving to all the reason why they also captured the conference title.

That said, the Lady Spartans still live to play another day at the East C Divisional Tournament in Miles City March 4-7, along with the champion Wildcats and 3-time defending State C title holder North Country Mavericks, who placed third.

The East C gathering at Custer County District High School begins with a Wednesday night twinbill as North Country (16-5, 1184664, 56.3-31.6) of the Saco, Whitewater and Hinsdale communities take on the Terry Terriers (9-13, 824965, 37.4-43.8) at 6 p.m.

Following with a scheduled 7:30 p.m. tip-off is the Garfield County (Jordan) Mustangs (16-4, 992-663, 49.6-33.1) meeting the Brockton Warriors (17-5, 1271-1001, 57.7-45.5).

Thursday action begins at 1:30 p.m. when the Carter County (Ekalaka) Bulldogs (12-8, 904-852, 45.2-42.6) go to battle against Scobey (15-6, 1111-657, 52.9-31.2).

The 6 p.m. matchup the same day has the Circle Wildcats (17-3, 1128-675, 56.4-33.7) trying to defuse the Richey-Lambert Fusion (18-3, 1036-755, 49.3-35.9).

At 7:30 p.m. the same night the top-seeded Bainville Bulldogs (18-3, 1036755, 49.3-35.9) take on the Terry-North Country winner at 7:30 p.m.

Scobey began the District 3C Tournament Wednesday, February 18, against the Nashua Porcupines and raced to a 54-0 lead early in the fourth quarter before the its opponent scored.
