It was without a doubt the most competitive and entertaining basketball game thus far in the 202526 season for the Scobey girls’ basketball team (and the fans of both teams who were in the stands watching the top-notch competition).

The only blemish was the local gals lost to the visiting Class B Glasgow Scotties in non-conference action, the final checking in at 58-54.

In overtime! Right from the get-go it was close and stayed close, not one single time making it into a double-digit advantage for either squad.

The Lady Spartans struck first, Kayla Carney’s 3-point field goal making it 3-0 just 26 seconds into the contest. The Scotties went ahead 7-3 but Chloe Handran’s drive knotted it at 7. Joely Chappell’s beautiful drive along the baseline for a layup followed by Bailey Billingsley’s right-wing trey had the visitors ahead 127. The Spartans countered with a McKenna Nieskens swishing 3-point field goal and freshman Emery Rouse, who continues to rapidly get better and better with each game, executed a beautiful move knotting it at 12-all at the end of one quarter.

The contest remained intense in the second frame where there were ties at 18 and 20 before Rouse struck again, swishing a huge 3-point field with 4 seconds until halftime for a 23-20 home-team lead.

Camrie Holum’s leftwing trey made it 28-21 Spartans but the Scotties showed no signs of being rattled. Instead they responded with a pair of 3-pointers to close within 31-30.

By the 3:08 mark of the third frame it was knotted at 35.
