Taken from the unapproved minutes and reporter’s notes of the regular meeting of City Council, City of Scobey, Montana held Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at 8:30 a.m.

REGULAR MEETING Mayor Morgan Lekvold called the meeting to order with Councilmembers Brian French, Niki Larson, and Seth Axtman present. Greg Crowder was present via Slack. Greg Ziegler 406 RX, Bob Haugo, David and Ashley Stentoft, Perry Wolfe, Lacey Southland, Kurt Nelson Public Safety Commissioner, Linda Harmon, Fire Chief Wyatt Wilder, City Attorney Samantha Howard, PWD Steve Berreth, and Clerk Sonya M. Southland also attended.

Public Comment – Linda Harmon was welcomed to the meeting, and announced she is running for House District 29. She stated she has a background in agriculture, which is a huge part of our district. Linda explained she is part of the Montana Family Foundation and presented a report on the 2025 legislative session.

Public Works Report

• PWD Berreth reported that City did not run the garbage truck because it was too cold, -30 below. Paul took Friday off and hauled garbage on Saturday. The crew is changing oil and doing maintenance on city equipment. We are still waiting for our main garbage truck and splash pad parts.

Zoning Administrator Report – Zoning Administrator Berreth reported on the zoning meeting that set forth the chicken coop regulations. Also, a resident asked to open a laundromat in the R2 district, so they have scheduled a public hearing to receive comments for or against allowing laundromats in R2 as a conditional use.
