Boys Notch Two More Wins, At Plentywood, Glasgow Next
No chinks in the armor yet as the Scobey varsity boys’ basketball team is still an undefeated squad after dispatching the Wolf Point Wolves and MonDak Thunder in non-conference home games last week. On deck to try and change that this week are a pair of non-conference challegers who will both have home-court advantage. On Saturday, January 10, the Spartans travel to Plentywood for a 5:30 p.m. date with the Wildcats (25, 337-381, 48.1-54.4). Twenty-six hours later they are set to tip-off against the Glasgow Scotties (2-3, 343317, 68.6-63.4) in The Dog Pound at 7:30 p.m. In last week’s action Scobey hosted the Wolves on Friday night, racing to leads of 26-3, 45-9, 58-16 and 7230 at the conclusion of each quarter. The Spartans (4-0, 29397, 73.2-24.2) were led in scoring by John Carney with 15 points followed by Cam Cromwell with 14 (10 in the second quarter) and Kolten Machart 12. In addition, of the 13 Scobey players who were dressed in uniforms, all experienced playing time and 10 of them put points on the scoreboard. And if those statistics are not gaudy enough, tack on the fact the Spartans committed a mere seven turnovers in the entire game! The next night, also on Scobey’s home hardwood, the Spartans were matched up with the District 2C’s Thunder. In the first quarter Carney netted five points, Machart and Brecken Maher four apiece, Cooper Axtman and Bram Handran three each and Reese Tande two. In the second frame Machart went off for five

field goals worth 10 points while Handran chipped in five markers, Axtman three and Carney and R. Tande two each.
In the second half the Spartans outscored the Thunder 21-6 in the 64-13 final.
Double-digit scorers for Scobey were Machart with 14 and Carney and B. Handran 10 each.
Of the 13 Scobey players suited up for the night’s action, all of them experienced playing time.
One last stat for Scobey and it is a big one: a mere five turnovers committed...
