One playoff opponent down, another one on tap.

After taking care of business against the North Division’s Choteau Bulldogs Saturday, November 1, by a 48-20 count, the top-ranked Scobey Spartans are now preparing for a Montana High School Association Class C 8-man quarterfinal contest.

The opponent is the St. Regis-Mullan Tigers (7-2, 396-222, 44.0-24.6), the latter being a school based in Idaho forming the interstate cooperative-agreement team. Kickoff is set 1 p.m. Saturday, November 8, on Scobey’s Plainsmen Field for the playoff game (Radio: KCGM 95.7 FM).

The weather forecast for Saturday’s matchup, as of the late morning hours of Tuesday, November 4, is calling for a daytime high of 32 degrees above zero with a 24% chance of snow (dig out your stocking cap).

Whichever route the Tigers take to get to Scobey, it is an extremely long haul either way. Option A is 612 miles one-way to Scobey via Missoula, Great Falls and Havre (652 miles for those heading east from Mullan, which is about 40 miles one-way to St. Regis). Option B is heading north to Kalispell along the east side of Flathead Lake then merging onto Highway 2 on the east side of Columbia Falls, which is 653 miles one way (693 miles from Mullan).

Either way, it is a looooong haul to and fro for the Tigers!

St. Regis-Mullan made it this far with these scores: won 40-38 over the Superior Bobcats, lost 72-36 to Seeley-Swan Blackhawks, won 56-12 over Troy Trojans, won 2-0 over Plains Horsemen by forfeit, won 28-0 over Saint Ignatius Bulldogs, lost 40-36 to Darby Tigers, defeated Arlee Warriors 62-26, defeated Victor Pirates 46-6, defeated Charlo Vikings 54-22 and defeated Sheridan Panthers 28-0 in th...
