Scobey Varsity Football Squad Is On Verge Of A Big Finishing Run


Regardless of what occurs tonight (Thursday, October 23), when the Poplar Indians visit Scobey’s Plainsmen Field in the final conference game of the regular season for both teams, the local Spartans are now in the catbird seat, which is defined as “a position of great prominence or advantage.”
In other words, they are now officially at home the rest of the way!
No 1,210-mile round trip to Drummond nor 1,028mile round trip to Seeley-Swan for a playoff game, just waking up in one’s own home for as long as the Spartans are in the playoffs!
Scobey (7-0, 336-86, 48.0-12.2) hosted the Fairview Warriors Thursday, October 16, and scored touchdowns on its first four offensive possessions, with a 49-yard punt return by senior Brecken Maher for a TD tucked in between. With 34 seconds remaining in the first quarter Scobey’s advantage was already at 30-0!
Fairview tallied on its next possession when putting together a 6-play, 55yard scoring drive making it 30-8 but that is all the Warriors would get.
Not so for the Spartans, who tallied twice in the third quarter.
Maher rushed into the end zone from seven yards out and Bram Handran grabbed the 2-point converson pass from Reese Tande making it 38-8.
