Scobey Gridders Make Early Statement They Are For Real


The Scobey Spartans are off to a great start in this 2025 season after defeating the Plentywood Wildcats 48-6 in the season opener.
Played on Plentywood’s Lincoln Field Thursday, August 28, the Spartans scored on their first three possessions just six minutes in with a 73-yard interception return in between for a very quick 32-0 cushion.
Scobey will now turn its attention to the Friday, September 5, home opener versus the MonDak Thunder of the Westby and Grenora communities, which is the Golf Rush Game/Senior Night Ceremony at Plainsmen Field. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Spartans executed a swift start to last Thursday’s season-opener against the Wildcats, advancing 41 yards on nine plays for an 8-0 advantage.
It took less plays on their second possession, five copared to nine, to tally again for a 16-0 lead just 4 minutes and 18 seconds into the contest.
The Wildcats were moving the ball well on their second possession by grabbing two pass receptions of 13 and 28 yards. Plentywood threw deep and Scobey’s Kolten Machart intercepted the ball at the 7-yard line and was off to the races, returning it 73 yards for a pick-six and 24-0 advantage.
