MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETINGS OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF DANIELS COUNTY, MONTANA, HELD JULY 7, 8, AND 16, 2025.
REGULAR MEETING July 7, 9 o’clock a.m.
The Board met in regular session, Commissioners Linder, Thievin and Fladager were present with the clerk. The meeting was called to order. Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Commissioner Thievin made a motion to approve the agenda, Commissioner Fladager seconded the motion, all voted in favor, motion passed.
Commissioner Fladager made a motion to approve June 2025 minutes, Commissioner Thievin seconded the motion, all voted in favor, motion passed.
Kristy Jones, Clerk and Recorder, requested permission to leave the state.
The Board approved June 2025 payroll.
The Board approved officer reports for June 2025.
The Board approved JV#’s 2697-8700.
Marla Gray, Jenna Nasby, Bob and Eileen Sain, LeeAnn Danelson and County Attorney Logan Olson, met with the Board regarding the disposal of animal remains after butchering. Bob Sain said that Jim Jones, Landfill supervisor had talked to him about the procedure to dispose of the remains. Bob said that they made the decision to close the slaughtering portion of A-S so the disposal of remains is no longer an issue. Discussion about other animals being disposed of was brought up. Deer carcasses are not a problem to be disposed of in the containers. The landfill no longer has a class II pit and because of that there are some changes to what can be disposed of in the containers that get brought to Plentywood.
There was discussion regarding cardboard recycling and the options that the Commissioners have looked into along with the City of Scobey was making pellets from the cardboard but that process still needs a lot of discussion and looking into.
There was concern about what would happen if Sheridan County decides to quit taking our garbage.
Tom Loftsgaard, Cemetery Board Chairman, met with the Board to let them know that the cemetery directory building needs replace. The have contacted Montana Shed Co and a 5’x8’ structure, open in front, no doors is approximated $3100.00. Commissoner Fladager made a motion to approve the purchase of the shed, Commissioner Thievin seconded the motion, all present voted in favor, motion passed.
Mary Nyhus, DES Coordinator, met with the Board. Discussed was the evacuation plan process, the call system is under the public health department, and the shelter can be opened by the Commissioners or the DES Coordinator. Mary will email the Clerk and Recorder a job description and ad for the newspaper for her DES Coordinator position.
