Scobey Boys’ Hoop Team On A Collision Course With Greatness


Since the Scobey High School boys’ varsity basketball program lost 6855 to eventual Montana High School Association (MHSA) Class C state champion Box Elder Bears on Friday, March 14, in the semifinals of the state tourney in Butte, they have not lost a game since.
Twenty-three victories in a row, with one real close, one somewhat close—if getting within 14 points at the end of a game can be termed as somewhat close—and the other 21 not even close.
Keep in mind only two of these games were official MHSA contests, both played at the Butte Civic Center nearly four months ago. After losing to the seniorstacked Box Elder bunch in the State C semifinals, the Spartans bounced back the next day with a 70-52 win over Lustre Christian in a loser-out contest. Then they pounded Fort Benton 59-35 in the consolation game to be awarded the tourney’s third-place trophy.
Consider that major accomplishment as a building block for what was to come next.
The June 2025 basketball tourney circuit was extremly good to the Scobey boys’ basketball team—they went undefeated!
First on the summer slate was the Spartans hosting their own tourney May 31 and June 1 in the Scobey High School large gymnasium. Their first opponent was a Scobey alumni team featuring the likes of Aidan Fishell (SHS ‘21), Austyn Fishell (SHS ‘19), Reagan Machart (SHS ‘22), Peyton Nieskens (SHS ‘17), C.J.
