Get Ready To Settle InAnd Read A Great Book About Baseball
IT WAS GETTING CLOSE TO LAST CALL FOR American Legion Baseball when this photo was snapped in June 2019 of the possible last team for the Scobey Blues. A few months later the team, with Josh Rustad as Head Coach, called it a season and have not played a game since. Filling out the roster for Coach Rustad were, front row from left, Chris Hagan (Plentywood), Prewitt Leibrand, Colter Oie, Anders Knudsen and Isaac Johnson (Medicine Lake); back row from left are Payton Leibrand, Walker Ator (Medicine Lake), Martin Farver, Jackson Oie and Austyn Fishell. Not pictured are player Devin Halverson, head coach Rustad and assistant coach Josh Johnson. Always remember this: sometimes things go in cycles and a re-birth of whatever sport, in this case American Legion Baseball in Scobey, could possibly just show up again out of the blue because kids want to keep playing it following Bambino Baseball and, maybe once again, Babe Ruth Baseball. Don’t count that scenario out just yet . . . we still just might be in the early innings. — Leader Photo, mike

The Blues of Summer (The True Story of Baseball in Daniels County, Montana), a book written by Peerless native Joe Puckett, will be on sale in Scobey throughout the All-Class Reunion June 26-29 among other means of purchase.

Books will be available at the Daniels County Museum Association building and Pioneer Town, where people can pick up their signed, preordered book(s) or purchase one at the booth. Books will also be available for purchase at the “This Is Baseball Country” gathering on Friday, June 27, at Richardson Theatre from 2-5 p.m. This 3-hour walk down memory lane, with an intermission, will include pictures on the big screen and will revisit the glorious baseball past of Daniels County. In addition, on Saturday, June 28, from 1-4:30 p.m. former Blues will gather at the Scobey Ball Park from 1-4:30 p.m. Bring your glove if wanting to toss the ball around with former Blues players or just show up and watch the fun, continuing the afternoon of play and celebrating Scobey baseball memories.

One of the first things to be read in the book is the third page saying: To the Veterans of the United States American Legion. Not only have you defended our country and kept us safe, you gave us the opportunity to play baseball. Thank you.

To give the Daniels County Leader reader a preview of what will be in the book, which contains a whopping 373 photos, the table of contents thoroughly sums up most everything: Page 1, Prologue. Page 6, The Homesteaders and Early Town Teams (1900-1924).
