The International Poplar River and Big Muddy Creek Task Force (Task Force) will host two public meetings to talk about water in the basin:

• Tuesday, June 10 in Scobey, Montana, at the Nemont Telephone Cooperative
• Wednesday, June 11 in Coronach, Saskatchewan, at Coronach Community Hall

These two public meetings will be held to share updates on current reporting in the basin and the work of the Task Force to date. The public is invited to share local information and perspectives about how water is being used now and what local needs may be in the future.

The Task Force was set up in October 2024 by the International Joint Commission (IJC) to identify gaps in current reporting on water by Canada and the US, in consideration of the IJC’s responsibilities under the 1948 Reference from governments.

The Poplar River and Big Muddy Creek are transboundary waters that flow between the province of Saskatchewan in Canada and the state of Montana in the United States. The IJC, which is a body set up by the governments of Canada and the United States, was established by the Boundary Waters Treaty of 1909 to help the governments of Canada and the United States prevent and resolve disputes over use of the waters shared by the two countries.
