THEY WERE NOT COMPETING at the Scobey Junior High Track & Field Meet held Saturday, May 4, at Lowry Field in Wolf Point but instead were working it at the long jump pit. From left are Tyler Leischner, Kennadi Cromwell, Coach Collin Wahl and Alex Moreno, who had the day off from competing at a track and field meet but not from working one. The weather report: a great, sunshiny, very warm day! See the results elsewhere in this issue, where the Scobey teams swept the all fourteam titles. — Leader Photo, mike

If one is wondering just how good the Scobey High School girls' track and field team is in this 2024 season, last week’s 42nd annual Norm Girard Top 10 Track and Field Meet in Glasgow provides a crystal-clear answer.

The Top 10 doesn’t keep team scores but that doesn’t mean the Daniels County

Leader is prohibited from using its math-addition skills to crunch the numbers by using the 10-8-6-42-1 scoring method. Those added-up figures reveal the Havre Blue Ponies would have taken first with 86 points followed by the Lady Spartans with 63, Savage Warriors 58, Glasgow Scotties 36.5 and Saco Panthers and Whitewater Penguins each with 34.

The boys’ side of things looked like this: Glasgow Scotties on top with 87 points followed by the Havre Blue Ponies with 73, Lustre Christian Lions 50, Scobey Spartans 50 and Dawson County Red Devils 40.

Scobey senior Mia Handran was the sole first-place winner for the Spartans, completing the 800-meter run in 2:26.98, or 1.25 seconds faster than runnersup Hallie Neibauer of the Chinook Sugarbeeters.

On the boys' side, Scobey senior Ty Leischner captured first place in the high jump (6-foot-4) and the pole vault (13-6).

Lustre Christian sophomore Johnslee Pierre was a double winner, capturing the long jump title with a leap of 21-6, a personal record. He, Byron Ewing, Brian Guedes and Terran Joseph took home the 4x400 relay race title with a 3:32.85, barely edging the Glasgow four by 68ths of a second.

Here is a look at all the winners of each event and the results of the Scobey and Lustre Christian prep athletes from the Monday, April 29, action at Scottie Field, followed by the results of the Gene Nelson Memorial in Wolf Point Friday, May 3:
