The Scobey varsity girls’ basketball team (19-6, 1166711, 46.6-28.4) has quite the streak going as it has never ended a season in the past eight years by finishing lower than third place at the East C Divisional Tournament.

The third-place streak was broken for the better in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons when the Spartans qualified for the State C Tournament’s in Great Falls and Missoula respectively, placing third in the former and not placing in the latter.

Take, for instance, points allowed. In the 2022-23 season the Scobey girls gave up 874 total points to their opponents. This past season it dropped by 163 points, down to 711, a fantastic trend heading into the first practice this November.

In 2022-23 the Spartans allowed opponents to net 313 field goals while this past season the number dropped to 248, which is 65 less, or a reduction of 2.6 per contest. In the same time frame total points allowed dropped from 874 to 711, successful 3-point field goals by opponents dropped from 80 to 55 and fouls whistled on the Spartans went from 356 (14.8) to 277 (11.0).

Enough of the future, let’s take a look back at the 2023-24 season.

The leading scorer this past season was 6-foot junior Kaytie Aanstad who, in 25 games...
