The Scobey Spartans shouldn’t feel too bad about losing 49-27 to the topranked North Country Mavericks in Saturday's championship game of the District 3C Tournament in Glasgow.

Many other teams have done so as well, dating all the way back to Saturday morning of the 2022 State C Tournament.

Since that loser-out game, which the Mavericks won followed by a consolation victory later that evening to secure the thirdplace trophy, the triumvirate of the Saco, Whitewater and Hinsdale communities have yet to taste defeat.

Forty-eight straight victories and it would appear more could be on the way in the short term.

The Spartans hung with the silver and black attack through the first quarter of Saturday's championship game, trailing 16-9 at the break, and even whittled down a 17-point deficit in the final two minutes before the half to 11, which meant there still was some hope.

That notion vanished quickly in the initial three minutes of the third quarter as North Country senior Paige Wasson hit a 16-footer and a 3-point field goal with a Shelbi LaBrie basket in between for a 34-16 lead.

Even Mya Green's beautiful swishing 3-point field goal from the left wing to beat the buzzer at the end of the third quarter, getting her team within a dozen points, still was not enough.
