They not only won but did so by more than one point, which means if the Scobey varsity girls’ basketball squad and Circle Wildcats end up tied in the conference standings at the conclusion of the regular season, it will be advantage Spartans.

The Roundtowners edged Scobey 38-37 December 16 in Scobey. The Spartans traveled south Saturday, January 20, and registered a 41-31 win.

It was close in the early going where Scobey led nearly the entire first quarter until Madelene Moline turned a tough shot into a 7-6 Circle lead.

That was it, however, as Claire Lekvold’s 3-point field goal to open the second-quarter scoring gave Scobey the lead for good. By intermission it was still close at 13-11 but field goals by Kennadi Cromwell and Kaytie Aanstad and a free throw by Kayla Carney pushed the margin to 23-14. Moline’s bucket to end the third-frame scoring put the Wildcats back within striking distance at 25-20.

It was the last time Circle would be close to the Spartans on the scoreboard as Aanstad and Cromwell netted baskets for a 9-point lead. The gapped widened considerably when eighth grader McKenna Nieskens drained a left-wing 3-point field goal with ...
