If the Scobey High School girls’ varsity basketball team proved just one thing on the opening weekend of game action at the Coach Connors Classic in Miles City it is this: the Spartans know how to keep a lead.

Like for the whole game. Times two. Not once did the Scobey girls give up their advantage in Friday’s 39-24 victory over the Harlowton Engineers, who has schools in Ryegate and Judith Gap in a cooperative agreement with them.

Avery Wolfe’s 3-point field goal for a 3-0 score was the game winner in the contest played in the Miles Community College Centra.

Harlowton’s Cindy Power hit a free throw getting her team within 3-1 but the Spartans used two Camrie Holum buckets with a Wolfe turnaround jumper in between for a 9-1 advantage.

The Engineers shot back with a 7-0 run to close within 9-8 before Chloe Handran’s free throw made it 10-8 at the end of the opening quarter.

After Mya Green sank a trey to open the secondquarter scoring, Harlowton closed within 13-10. It was at this point the Spartans began pulling away as Kayla Carney drill...
