CURLNG — Next big stop is the Republic of Korea for Team Ponzio: Zach Brenden of Bismarck, North Dakota and his three teammates journeyed to Denver, Colorado September 6-10 for the Junior Olym pics Curling Trials and won it! In addition to Brenden, who has been curling since age 10, the team is also made up of Owen Nelson of Mandan, North Dakota, Kenna Ponzio (skip) of Minnesota and Teegan Thurston of Wisconsin. Brenden, a senior at Legacy High School in Bismarck, and Nelson are members of the Capital Curling Club in Bismarck. The big victory by a 5-4 count over Team Podhradsky in a field of 23 teams means this curling team is scheduled to compete in the fourth edition of the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games. They are to be held January 19 through February 1, 2024 in Gangwon province in the cities of Pyeongchang and Gangneung (Republic of Korea), which was home to the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
