Lady Spartans Look Strong In 1st Outdoor Meet Of 2023 Season

 

The Scobey High School girls' track and field team has to be feeling very fine this week following a strong performance in last week’s Wibaux Invitational.

Held at the Oakland Athletic Complex at Perham Field in Glendive Saturday, April 7, the Lady Spartans compiled 150 points to capture second place. The only team better was the Plentywood Wildcats with 159.

The Scobey boys finished with 44 points for eighth place where 20 teams scored.

Both the Scobey girls and boys are hosting the Northeast Track Invitational at Lowry Field in Wolf Point Saturday, April 15, where 13 other teams have been invited, including: Bainville, Circle, Dodson, Frazer, Hinsdale, Lustre Christian, MonDak (Westby-Grenora), Nashua, Plentywood, Richey-Lambert, Trinity Christian (Williston, N.D.), Whitewater and Wolf Point.

The first field event goes at 9 a.m. while the initial race on the track starts at 10 a.m.

Mia Handran, a junior, was Scobey’s top point-getter as she won the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run and placed fifth in the 200. Her 2:22.76 effort in the 2-lap 800 is a new Scobey High School record, previously held by Mayson Hudyma who ran a 2:24.7 in 2017.

Sophomore Mya Green scored in the 3200-meter run (third) and 1,600-meter run (fifth) Sophomore Mady Willis contributed heavily to the second-place finish by taking second in the 300 hurdles, third in the 100 hurdles and seventh in the 200 dash.

Freshman Camrie Holum earned some team points with fourth-place fin ishes in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run.

The 4x400 relay team of junior Kinsey Anderson, Green, Handran and Willis placed first in 4:25.75, a hair under 6 seconds faster than runnersup Glasgow. In the 4x100 relay the Lady Spartans placed fifth in 54.16, with Anderson, Handran, Holum and Willis each sprinting their 100-meter segment.

Scoring in the field events for the blue and gold were Opheim High School senior Carrie Taylor (2nd javelin, 6th discus) and junior Kaytie Aanstad (5th discus).

Tallying points for the Scobey boys were Opheim senior Bo Anderson (5th triple jump), senior Masen Green (5th 3200), junior Ty Leischner (1st pole vault, 4th triple jump; 5th high jump).

Lustre Christian senior Jasiah Hambira had a big day for the Lions: first in the high jump, long jump and triple jump and second in the 200- and 400-meter runs.
