BASKETBALL — Fifty years and counting: The 2022-23 Montana High School Association girls' basketball season is winding down, meaning it is the perfect time to run this article by Mike Brandt, whose sports stories appear in the BS Buzz publication based in Glasgow. With Brandt's premission here is a great look back at 50 years of sanctioned MHSA girls' basketball in Big Sky Country: Technically the Montana High School Association (MHSA) re-introduced girls' basketball in the fall of 1972, making this last fall the 50th anniversary since the girls started playing hoops. Girls were playing basketball back in the 1940s and 1950s but there wasn't an organized league for them. An article in the February 2, 1942 Glasgow Courier newspaper had Nashua edging Hinsdale 23-21 in overtime with Dorothy Benson making the game-winning bucket.
