If the Scobey girls’ varsity basketball team picks up just where it left off this past March in the East C Divisional Tournament in Wolf Point, good, perhaps even great things are just around the corner. How far off that corner is remains to be seen. The setting was the Wolves’ Den Gym at Wolf Point High School, the Spartans challenging the mighty North Country Mavericks for the right to advance to the 46th annual State C Tournament at Four Seasons Arena in Great Falls. The two had met twice in the regular season, with the Spartans taking it on the chin in a 52-17 loss in Hinsdale January 7. The regularseason rematch in Scobey February 4 was more of the same as the Mavs blew out the Spartans 59-30. When the two collided in the District 3C Tournament championship game in Wolf Point February 19 it was the Saco-Whitewater-Hinsdale gals cruising to a 59-22 blowout. Nine days later at the East C Divisional Tournament in Wolf Point the Spartans and Mavericks were meeting once again, this time in a challenge game with a berth in the State C Tournament on the line.

There were ties at 4, 6 and 8 before Scobey led 11-8 through one quarter. It was tied at 16 before the Spartans led 19-16 at the half...
