When most of us hear the name MonDak these days we think of the MonDak Thunder, the high school sports interstate cooperative agreement team between schools in Westby, Montana and Grenora, North Dakota. The two are separated by 22 miles of prairie and a state border.

Long before these two schools merged on the sports end of things there was MonDak, Montana/ North Dakota. It was, and still is today as a ghost town, located just inside the state line on the Montana side about 100 yards north of Highway 327 and about 500 yards northwest of the Fort Union Trading Post, a National Historic Location just inside the North Dakota border.
