Top-Ranked Lady Spartans Headed West

 

The cross country crystal ball is signaling the Scobey girls’ varsity team could have a very good opportunity to bring back home a top-3 trophy this week from the All-Class State Meet in Missoula.

Then again, maybe it is the Montana Class C top ranking the Spartans are currently enjoying heading into finals week, in a tight race with the West Division’s Manhattan Christian Eagles who are closely behind in the number-two spot.

Either way the Spartans, excuse the pun, are in the running to win it all.

It only took a mere four seasons to get to this point since the revival of the program in 2019 after it sat dormant for nearly 40 seasons.

Scobey will be taking seven girls on the 1,092mile round trip to Missoula for the Saturday, October 22, state finals. Most of them are familiar with the University of Montana Golf Course in Missoula because that is where the 2021 finals were conducted.

Sophomore Mya Green (3rd in 2021 at state), juniors Mia Handran (8th), Danielle Cahill (67th) and Joy Williams (71st) and senior Leah Ridley (88th) all ran the same course last season when placing fourth with 68 points out of 19 schools scoring.
