Daniels County Solid Waste has some tough decisions to make and a lot of work ahead. Recently the County engineer consultant, Barry Damschen of Helena recommended that closing Daniels County Landfill may be its best option. Last week, at the Daniels County Solid Waste board meeting, that was the main topic, along with getting a handle on dump fees, primarily for construction debris. Scales and a different fee system was discussed as the landfill could do better offsetting costs with more uniformity. Consensus was to find another option other than closing. There is much to investigate but time is running out as the landfill has less than two years estimated life left in the pit that holds household garbage. It’s filling faster than expected.
