Taken from the unapproved minutes of the regular meeting of City Council, City of Scobey, Montana held Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 8:30 a.m. at City Hall.

REGULAR MEETING

Mayor Morgan Lekvold called the meeting to order with councilmen Scott Fishell, Seth Axtman and Paul Landeraaen present. Councilman Baker was absent. Also, in attendance were John Leibrand, Don Hagan, Clint Lowe, Fire Chief Wyatt Wilder, City Attorney Ben Fosland, PWD Steve Berreth and Clerk Sonya M. Southland.

Public Comment – Clint Lowe inquired about what process to take to get a damaged (tree rot) tree removed from the Blvd. His concern is the tree is leaning towards the house and garage noting the garage is on the property line. The city owns the Blvd and technically the trees on the Blvd but the homeowner is responsible for upkeep. Ultimately, however, the city may be liable if it falls and creates property damage. PWD recommended the Council hire an arborist to assess the tree and remove it if needed. Mayor Lekvold recommended getting quotes and make this upcoming agenda item. Mayor Lekvold suggested getting a hold of Mike Bjarko to look at the tree in question and do an inventory of all problems trees on the Blvd and park.

John Leibrand reported they did hire someone to look at the trees at the cemetery. He also inquired about the water rates for the cemetery and reported the cemetery board is making progress on the cemetery directory and has expanded the directory to include notes like birthdates and maiden names. This will be a searchable engine online. Cemetery board wants feedback from families to add additional information to the directory.
