Taken from the unapproved minutes of the regular meeting of City Council, City of Scobey, Montana held Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at 8:30 a.m. at City Hall.

REGULAR MEETING

Mayor Morgan Lekvold called the meeting to order with councilmen Scott Fishell, Paul Landeraaen, Seth Axtman and Jon Baker present. Also, in attendance were Lyndsey Maldonado, Joy Thompson, Mark Penland, Don Hammar, Les Leibrand, John Leibrand, Pool Manager Tate Carney, Sheriff Anderson, Undersheriff Vine, PWD Steve Berreth and Clerk Sonya M.

Public Hearing – Mayor Lekvold open Public Hearing to hear comments for and against allowing backyard chickens.

Lyndsey Maldonado spoke in favor of allowing backyard chickens with stipulations. She suggested using a permit process to help regulate, no more than five chickens allowed, and limiting to single family homes, not apartments.

Don Hammer was not in favor of chickens within city limits, stating chickens would attract predators into town and was concerned about monitoring and enforcement.

He wouldn’t like to see city employees pulled away from other duties. Don also brought up concerns about allowing other livestock in city limits.
