Lil’ Roar Tourney Hit By Power Outage, Sunday Action Halted

Point-five because the 17th annual Scobey Lil' Roar

Basketball Tournament held in the two Scobey School gymnasiums completed the fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade divisions on Friday and Saturday but only completed five games on Sunday as a power outage hit the area at 9:51 a.m.

The lights were actually flickering a few times during the 4-5 p.m. time frame of Saturday’s action but nothing ever came of it. This was a result of a powerful spring storm east of Scobey and into northwest North Dakota, including the areas around Crosby, Grenora, Williston and Watford City. In Montana the power outages were around the Poplar area and east of Glendive. Heavy freezing rain settled on power lines causing around 500 power poles to snap, fall to the ground, and cut off the juice.

So the Lil’ Roar went dark. The large gym was very dark but some outside light coming in from the big garagesized door on the east side made it a bit lighter but very far from being able to play a game. However, there was enough light a little later in the big gym where the kids could shoot around a little bit after Scobey Lions Club President Wyatt Wilder, who is also a local fireman, borrowed a flood light from the fire department. However, it still was far from being able to play games.
