We were reading the Wall Street Journal the other day about ghost condos in lower Manhattan. Particularly about 1 Seaport, a 57-60 story (conflict ing reports on how many stories), concrete, glassfaced building. Construction began over five years ago. Most of it, still open to the elements. The condos were being sold from studio apartments at $1.2 million, to over $11 million for penthouse suites. Nearly 100 contracts had been sold with 90 people, so far, getting their money back for various reasons, mainly because the building was not finished. The building, it seems, carries its own bad luck, between financing troubles, changes in ownerships and contractors and more. A big point of contention is that it leans 3 inches at the top, but supposedly safe.
