It could be a historymaking night on Friday, December 17, 2021 when the two-time defending Class C state champion Scobey Spartans varsity boys’ basketball team hosts the Mon-Dak Thunder in a scheduled 7:30 p.m. tip-off in the SHS gymnasium.

It could also be a another history-making night on Saturday, December 18, 2021 when those same Spartans host the Dodson Coyotes in a scheduled 6 p.m. tip-off in the large gym.

However, there will not be any history-making attempts unless those same varsity Spartans tally more points than the Frazer Bearcubs, who visit Scobey on Thursday, December 16, for a scheduled 6:30 p.m. go-time in the season opener for the Spartans.

The boys in blue and gold take a 54-game winning streak into the 2021-22 season, a run started at the end of the 2018-19 campaign in MetraPark Arena in Billings during the team's final three games at the State C Tournament where they placed third.

The Class AA Missoula Sentinel Spartans currently hold the boys’ record at 56 consecutive wins, which was achieved from 1962-65.

Streak-watching aside, the Spartans appear to have their hands full in the fourth game of the season when traveling to play the Lustre Christian Lions on Tuesday, December 21. This will be a key District 3C matchup, as will the Tuesday, January 25, rematch in Scobey against a very good Lions club.

Other interesting matchups for the Spartans include: a non-conference clash with a traditionally-tough South C Division Melstone Broncs team at Dawson Community College in Glendive; a pair of home-and-home games with the District 2B Glasgow Scotties and Wolf Point Wolves; a rematch with the Dodson Coyotes in their den Sa...
