Scobey Bids Bye-Bye To Regular Season, Greetings To Postseason

The final high school track and field meet of the 2021 regular season for the Scobey-Opheim Spartans was rained-out, winded-out, clouded-out and any other cold-weather definition leading to unintended pulled muscles one week before the postseason blasts out of the starting block.

In other words the Gene Nelson Memorial Meet in Wolf Point Friday, May 7, was a go in good weather conditions while the 23rd annual Jean Dreikosen Memorial Meet in Glasgow Saturday, May 8, was a nogo due to interesting weather.

So the regular season is now in the books and the postseason awaits; not a long wait as the District 3C Meet is set for Saturday, May 15, at Lowry Field in Wolf Point starting at 9 a.m. It be held in conjunction with the District 2B Meet.

The top eight finishers at the 3C gathering will advance to the East C Divisional Meet at Swanson Field in Sidney Thursday, May 20.

Last week's meet action started with the 36th annual Top 10 Meet in Glasgow Tuesday, May 4, where the top finisher for the Spartans was Gracee Lekvold. The senior was edged 2:28.60to-2:29.07 by Westby High School junior Elizabeth Field in the 800-meter run, which is less than one-half second! Anticipate these two being nearly side-byside for all two laps when they, in all likelihood, meet again at the divisional meet.

The next highest finisher for the Spartans at the Top 10 was junior J.P. Braut, who placed fifth in the pole vault at 11 feet, 6 inches. Senior Josh Hammerly (6th, shot put, 43-4.50) and junior Hudson Kjos (6th in long jump at 18-1) followed.

At Friday's Nelson Memorial Meet 10 Spartans ended the day in first place.

Lekvold won the 800, Braut the pole vault (12-6, personal best) and Payton Leibrand the javelin (1418, PB). Both of Scobey's 4x400 relays of Zak Traeholt, Jayce Tande, Cole Taylor and Reagan Machart and Taylor Leischner, Mia Handran, Kasslyn Baldry and Lekvold placed first.

Here are the results of the Top 10 Meet's first place finishers and of the Scobey and Lustre Christian athletes. Following those are the first-place finishers and Scobey and Lustre Christian results from the Gene Nelson Memorial:
