Hinsdale Handles Competition At Season-Opening Gathering

The Hinsdale Raiders literally raided the Glasgow Invitational Track and Field

Meet, not once but twice! The season-opener had 27 teams representing 29 schools stretching from Havre to Miles City and including most every team north of the mentioned imaginary line. Held Thursday, April 1, at Scottie Field the District 3C Raiders proved to everybody they weren’t joking around on April Fool’s Day as their girls’ team edged the Class A Havre Blue Ponies 52-to-51 to capture the girls’ team title. The Hinsdale boys (76 points) were 11 better than runnersup Havre (65). On a day where the temperature eventually reached 70 degrees, Hinsdale senior Kaitlyn McColly’s performance nearly reached perfection. She placed first in the long jump, triple jump, pole vault and 100-meter hurdles and was the runnersup in the 100-meter dash for 48 of the Raiders’ 52 points. On the boys’ side Hinsdale seniors Loden Idler and Jesse Lee and junior Trey Johnson tallied all the points. Individual scoring for the Scobey-Opheim girls were: senior Gracee Lekvold, 1st in 800, 2nd in 1600; junior Karys Lamb, 4th in high jump; Mia Handran, 5th in 400; Ophiem junior Mandy Furhman, 6th in high jump; Opheim sophomore Carrie Taylor, 6th in discus, 6th in javelin. Both relay teams tallied points: in the 4x400 the Scobey girls of, in order ran, senior Taylor Leischner, M. Handran, sophomore Kasslyn Baldry and Lekvold placed third in 4:36.67, just over 14 seconds slower than champion Havre and seven-one-hundredths of a second behind second-place Plentywood; in the 4x100 relay Scobey placed fourth in 55.71 with, in order ran, Lamb, senior Alexa Fishell, M. Handran and Leischner competing.

Scoring for the Scobey boys were: junior J.P. Braut, pole vault, personal record 11-0, 3rd; 4x100 relay team of Aidan Fishell, Reagan Machart, Jayce Tande and Zak Traeholt, 3rd, 47.78; 4x100 relay team of Machart, Tande, Opheim junior Cole Taylor and Traeholt, 3rd, 3:53.43; junior Devon Southland, pole vault, 4th, 11-0; Taylor, 3200 meter mn, personal record 11:17.52,6th.
