Seventy-five percent of the field for next week's 45th annual Montana Class C State Girls’ Basketball Tournament and 72nd annual Montana Class C Boys’ Basketball State Tournaments at Lockwood High School in Billings have been set in stone.

The Fort Benton Longhorns and Roy-Winifred Outlaws of the North Division, Melstone Broncs and Garfield County (Jordan) Mustangs of the South Division and Seeley-Swan Blackhawks and Manhattan Christian Eagles of the West Division have qualified for girls. Earning the high grade for the boys are the Fort Benton Longhorns and Belt Huskies of the North Division, Bridger Scouts and Powder River County (Broadus) Hawks of the South Division and Manhattan Christian Eagles and Twin Bridges Falcons of the West Division. The remaining four teams, two in each state tourney, will be determined this week at the East C Divisional Girls’/Boys’ Tournaments at Sidney High School. The first-round pairings on Wednesday, March 3, for the girls were: At 9 a.m. North Country Mavericks of the Saco, Whitewater and Hinsdale communities (1st, 3C tourney: 18-0 overall record, 1081-492 points for/points against, 60.0-27.3 averages) versus Circle Wildcats (4th 2C: 8-4, 551-376, 45.9-31.3); At 11 a.m. Lustre Christian Lions (3rd, 3C: 9-7, 661-737, 41.3-46.0) versus Froid-Lake Redhawks (2nd, 2C: 14-6, 832-616, 41.6-30.8); At 5:30 p.m. Plentywood Wildcats (1st, 2C: 16-2, 914-531, 50.7-29.5) versus Savage Warriors (5th, 2C: 7-9, 548-631, 34.2-39.4); At 7:30 p.m. MonDak Thunder of the Westby, Montana and Grenora, North Dakota communities (3rd, 2C: 9-8, 683-547, 40.1-32.1) versus Scobey Spartans (2nd, 3C: 16-4, 915-598, 45.7-29.9).

The consolation game for the girls is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, while the championship is set for 5 p.m.

The first-round pairings for the boys has the top half of the bracket playing Wednesday, March 3, and the bottom half on Thursday, March 4.

At 1 p.m. Wednesday the Scobey Spartans (1st, 3C: 20-0, 1392-613, 69.6-30.6) opened against the Richey-Lambert Fusion (4th, 2C: 8-7, 799-707, 53.2-47.1); At 3:30 p.m. Wednesday the Dodson Coyotes (3rd, 3C: 11-3, 718-594, 51.2-42.4) faced the MonDak Thunder of Westby, Montana and Grenora, North Dakota (2nd, 2C: 11-6, 720- 767, 42.3-45.1); At 9 a.m. Thursday, March 4, the Froid-Lake Redhawks (1st, 2C: 18-2, 1227-656, 61.3-32.8) play the Plentywood Wildcats (5th, 2C: 6-13, 947-1000, 49.8-52.6); At 11 a.m. Thursday the Fairview Warriors (3rd, 2C: 11-3, 788-603, 56.2-43.0) face the North Country Mavericks (2nd, 3C: 12-7, 949-843,49.9-44.3) of Saco, Whitewater and Hinsdale.

Saturday’s consolation contest is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the championship 7:30 p.m. All girls and boys East C Divisional Tournament games can be heard live on Scobey radio station KCGM 95.7 FM all four days.
