Scholarship Recognizes Senior Students For Volunteer Service

 

The Governor’s Office of Community Service (Serve-Montana), Reach Higher Montana, and Montana Campus Compact (MTCC) are recently announced 100 Montana high school seniors have been awarded Youth Serve Montana Scholarships.

This scholarship is offered in two awards, $1,000 for 50-99 hours of service and $1,500 for 100+ hours of service to attend a Montana Campus Compact member institution next fall.

TwoScobeySeniorswere awarded scholarship this year.

TheYouth Serve Montana Scholarship was created to promotevolunteerismamong high school students. Funds are available through support fromMontanaCampusCompact, a network of Montana campuses committed to community service; Reach Higher Montana, a nonprofit dedicated to helping students pursue and fund post-secondary education; and the Governor’s Office of Community Service, the state agency tasked with expanding and promoting community service in Montana.

The Governor’s Office of Community Service administers the scholarship funds.


And, Danielle Cahill a $1,000 recipient, having provided 50-99 hours of volunteerism.

FCCLA MEDALS ALL 10 PARTICIPANTS ….

 

FCCLA MEDALS ALL 10 PARTICIPANTS – Family, Career and Community Leaders of America State Leadership Conference was held in Bozeman on March 13-15.

Students attended Leader training, workshops, team competitions, career and college booths, and had a chance to tour the college during the conference. Students competed in Food Innovation, Nutrition and Wellness and Career Investigation events. Anna and Joy Williams and Sophia Handran placed 2nd in Nutrition and Wellness and were eligible to attend National FCCLA in Seattle in June, however they have conflicts and chose to let the 3rd place team attend on their behalf.

Ten medals out of 10 attending is a good representation of the Scobey student body efforts!

DAN CLARK, DIRECTOR OF THE Montana State University Extension Local Government Center was in Scobey explaining and answering questions about the process of local governments as they are, and potential options available to voters of all municipalities and counties in Montana. Flaxville, Scobey and Daniels County will be presenting the option to fund a review for our local governments in the June 4 primary. He presented at Richardson Theatre courtesy of the Daniels County Chamber. Thirty-two people attended the informative session. NWS Presents SKYWARN 2024

 

Become A Storm Spotter National Weather Service Glasgow is presenting SKYWARN training in April for volunteers who would like to become spotters for this area.

The National Weather Service encourages anyone with an interest in public service to join the program and consider becoming a spotter.

Attend one of the SKYWARN classes near you this spring. Training is free and typically lasts about 2 hours.

Training sessions will be held in Plentywood Monday, April 8th at 6 p.m. in the Jubilee Room (100 W. Laurel Ave); and in Glasgow Thursday, May 2 at 6 p.m. at the Valley County Courthouse (501 E Court St.).

You’ll learn: – Basics of thunderstorms -Fundamentals of storm structure – Identifying potential severe weather features – Type of Information to report – How to report information – Basic severe weather safety SKYWARN storm spotters form the nation’s first line of defense against severe weather.

Three Have Filed For School Board; Deadline Today

 

There are two seats up for the Scobey School Board of Trustees this spring. Jesse Cole and Logan Olson are the incumbents. At this writing Cole, the current chairman, has not filed for reelection, Olson has. Two newcomers have tossed their hats into the ring, Gayle May and Garrett Lund.

Candidates have until 4 p.m. today, Thursday, March 28 to file. Write-ins have until April 4 at 5 p.m.

The top two with the most votes will fill the seats.

Voters will vote by mail with the election day being May 7. See next issue concerning two mill levy propositions on the May 7 ballot.

Blood Drawing Nets 48 Units

 

The Red Cross Community Blood Drawing in Scobey March 21 had 48 people presenting and 48 units were collected.

The next draw in Scobey will be June 13.

Swim Team Pie Sale Saturday, March 30

 

Scobey Stingrays Swim Team annual Easter pie sale is Saturday, March 30 from 10 a.m. to noon in the former Tande’s Toggery building on Main Street.

Free Coffee & Treat Honor All Veterans Friday, March 29

 

Scobey American Legion Post 56 and VFW Selmer Oie Post #173 will honor ALLVETERANS on Friday, March 29, National Vietnam WarVeterans Day, with a free coffee and a treat. The event is at Rose and Marie’s Coffee Shop on Main Street, open Fridays from 6:30 to 4:30.

Good Friday Ecumenical Service

 

A Good Friday Ecumenical Service will be at noon at Scobey Lutheran Church in Scobey.

The service is sponsored by the County Ministerial Association. Everyone is welcome.
